Our story
In the beginning there was digging. Digging out for patios and drives. Moving tonnes of soil to fill voids with hardcore, cement, paving and tarmac.
Clients were happy with the results but there was no joy to be found in just the moving of earth. Our founder, Dean, enjoyed observing the constant change and development of trees and shrubs through the seasons. Inspired by the dynamic environment of a constantly changing garden, he realised that the joy of horticulture lies in seeing plants flourish and change with the season, not to simply have plants abut a new patio or drive.
Driven to learn the true art of horticulture, Dean hit the books and became a student and studied at Kingston Maurward College and Leeds Metropolitan University, before donning his wellies to hone his skills in some of the finest gardens in Europe:
- Le Manoir aux quat Saisons employed as gardener to Raymond Blanc
- Fredensborg Palace, Denmark, gardener to the Danish Queen
- Head of gardens to the Maltese President and the Maltese Prime Minister
- Curator of the kitchen garden at The Yorke Arms, Ramsgill-in-Nidderdale
Dean established Grant Horticulture with the aim of bringing his wealth of knowledge, experience and passion together. Along with his dedicated team Dean’s mission is to provide a first-class horticultural service.
